Stuffed karela recipe
Stuffed karela or bharwa karela tastes delicious and do not tastes bitter. It has a tangy flavour. It’s healthy as well as quick to make.
INGREDIENTS
- 4 bitter gourd.
- 3 tbsp oil +oil for frying.
- 1 tsp panch phoron.
- 1/4 tsp asafoetida.
- 5-6 chopped garlic.
- 1 chopped onion.
- 1/2 tsp turmeric powder.
- 1 tsp red chilli powder.
- 2 tsp coriander powder.
- 2 tsp dry mango powder.
- 1 tsp Garam masala.
- Salt.
INSTRUCTIONS TO MAKE
- Scrape the skin of bottle gourd and make a long cut.
- Remove all the seeds from it.
- Reserve skin and seeds for stuffing.
- Coat the bottle gourd well with salt and leave it for 20-25 mins.
- Add salt on skin and seeds and leave it for 20-25 mins.
- After 20-25 mins wash the bottle gourd with water.
- Wash the skin and seeds as well.
- In a pan heat oil and add panch phoron, asafoetida and saute few seconds.
- Add chopped garlic and saute for a min.
- Add chopped onion and saute few mins.
- Add skin and seeds of bottle gourd and cook for 6-7 mins.
- Add turmeric powder, red chilli powder, coriander powder, salt, dry mango powder and mix well.
- Add garam masala and mix well.
- Add 2 tbsp water and mix all well and cook few mins.
- Transfer the stuffing in a bowl.
- Fill the stuffing in the bottle gourd and tie with thread.
- In a pan heat oil and fry the bottle gourd until it turns brown from all sides (cook on medium-low flame).
- Remove thread before serving.
