Kala Chana ki sabji

Black chickpea curry or kala Chana ki sabji is not only healthy but it’s delicious too. It’s easy and quick to make. Serve this sabji with roti, naan or paratha.


  • 1 cup black chickpea.
  • 4-5 tbsp oil.
  • 1/2 tsp cumin seeds.
  • 1 bay leaf.
  • 3-4 green chilli.
  • 2 finely chopped onion.
  • 1 tbsp ginger-garlic paste.
  • 2 finely chopped tomato.
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder.
  • 1 tsp red chilli powder.
  • 1 tbsp coriander powder.
  • 1/2 tsp cumin powder.
  • Salt.
  • 1/2 tsp garam masala.
  • 2 tbsp coriander leaves.


  1. In a bowl add black chickpea and wash well.
  2. Add water and soak it for overnight.
  3. In a pressure cooker heat oil and add cumin seeds, bay leaf and saute for a min.
  4. Add green chilli and chopped onion and mix well.
  5. Add ginger-garlic paste and saute everything till it turns brown.
  6. Add finely chopped tomato and mix well.
  7. Add turmeric powder, red chilli powder, coriander powder, cumin powder, salt and mix well.
  8. Cook the mixture till it starts leaving oil from sides.
  9. Once masala cooked well add soaked black chickpea and mix well.
  10. Add 1.5 cup of water and mix well.
  11. Cook it for 6-7 whistle.
  12. As pressure released switch on the flame.
  13. Add garam masala and coriander leaves and mix well.
