Dal tadka Recipe

Dal tadka in restaurant style. Very delicious and healthy dal tadka recipe. It can be served with Rice, jeera rice, parathas and many more. The tempering on top takes the dal to another level. Delicious dal tadka recipe.

INGREDIENTS

  • 1/2 cup toor dal
  • 1/4 cup masoor dal
  • 1/4 cup moong dal
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  • Salt
  • 1 tsp oil
  • 2 tbsp clarified butter
  • 1/2 tsp cumin seeds
  • 1/4 tsp asafoetida
  • 2 dry red chilli
  • 1 inch grated ginger
  • 8-10 grated garlic
  • 2 green chilli
  • 8-10 curry leaves
  • 1 chopped onion
  • 1 chopped tomato
  • 1 tsp red chilli Powder
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp coriander powder
  • Salt
  • 1 tsp fenugreek leaves
  • 1/2 tsp garam masala
  • 1 tbsp coriander leaves

For tempting

  • 1 tbsp clarified butter
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds
  • 2 dry red chilli
  • 1 tsp red chilli powder

DESCRIPTION

  1. In a bowl add toor dal, masoor dal, moong dal and wash the dal twice.
  2. After washing dal add water and soak for 30 mins.
  3. Add the soaked dal and water in pressure cooker, add more water, turmeric powder, salt and oil and pressure cook for 5 whistle.
  4. Once pressure released open the cooker and mix the dal and add 1 cup water.
  5. In a wok heat clarified butter, add cumin seeds, asafoetida, dry red chilli and saute for few seconds.
  6. Add grated ginger, grated garlic, green chilli, curry leaves and saute few secs.
  7. Add onion and cook till it browns.
  8. Add chopped tomatoes and cook till turns mushy.
  9. Add turmeric powder, red chilli powder, coriander powder, salt and mix well.
  10. Add Fenugreek leaves, garam masala and mix well.
  11. Add cooked dal and mix well and cook for 5 mins.
  12. Add coriander leaves and mix well.

For tempering

  1. In a pan heat clarified butter and add cumin seeds and saute few mins.
  2. Add dry red chilli and saute few seconds.
  3. Add red chilli powder and mix well for few seconds (do not burn).
  4. Pour the tempering over dal and mix well and serve hot.
